MEL Intern Justice Center

Join the CARE Climate Justice Center (CJC) and members of the team to contribute to CJC's goal to lead and coordinate the integration of climate justice and resilience across CARE's development and humanitarian work.

CARE's vision for climate justice

CARE International is a global confederation that works in over 100 countries towards overcoming poverty and achieving social justice. Climate justice is one of the 6 impact areas of CARE's 2030 vision. For CARE, climate justice means a future where the poorest and most marginalised have improved their wellbeing significantly. Where women and men can enjoy their human rights due to increased resilience to climate change, increased equality and a global temperature rise that is limited to 1.5°C. CARE's global goal for climate justice is to strengthen the resilience and adaptive capacities of 25 million poor and marginalised people, particularly women and girls, to the effects of climate change by 2030. To reach this goal, CARE is building on 20 years of experience.

About the Climate Justice Center

The CARE Climate Justice Center (CJC), hosted by CARE Nederland, is CARE International's Global Team working on climate justice. The CJC's main goal is to coordinate and enable the integration of climate justice and resilience across CARE's development and humanitarian work. We achieve this by sharing tools and fostering knowledge exchange between our 100+ global offices and local partners, validating and analysing internal impact data on climate justice, facilitating learning through the CARE Climate & Resilience Academy, and undertaking and supporting advocacy efforts at global, regional and national level.

What will you be doing?

The main objective of the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) internship is to provide you with quality learning experience around data preparation, validation, analysis, interpretation and communication, impact measurement, and knowledge management. In turn, you will lend your expertise to contribute to CARE's Climate Justice Vision 2030 goal. As a MEL intern at the CARE Climate Justice Centre, you will:

  • Validate, analyse and interpret data from CARE entities globally and develop your understanding of carbon footprint measurement, climate smart practices and climate and environment policy in development organisations;
  • Learn how to develop training resources and support staff in reporting quality carbon footprint and climate-smart data;
  • Support in the organisation and facilitation of sensemaking sessions for staff to gain insights on carbon footprint and climate smart data collected;
  • Expand your skills in producing and sharing high quality and engaging reports that demonstrate CARE's results with recommendations to the CARE confederation;
  • Learn how to produce and share engaging and inspirational knowledge products from key evaluations.

The internship will take place under the guidance and leadership of the CARE Climate Justice Center Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Specialist, based at CARE Uganda, with whom the intern will collaborate closely on all the above tasks.
