As a Naval Architect, you will spearhead the set-up and execution of engineering projects, leading initiatives of low to medium complexity, encompassing on-board projects and conversions. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the reliability of our diverse fleet, which includes Geophysical Research Vessels (typically DP0 or DP1 classed), Geotechnical Drilling Research vessels (DP2 classed), and Inspection vessels equipped with ROVs for comprehensive inspection tasks. In this integral role, you will ensure that projects within your purview are delivered seamlessly within the approved scope, budget, and designated timeframe. Your projects includes management of hull efficiency throughout the fleet, thruster optimalisation, concept studies for new vessels, structural integration of geotechnical equipment on existing and new ships, crew optimalisation studies & execution. This is a office based job and your role would typically involve limited international travel, with the exception of 3 to 4 times a year for short project visits.

Your role

  • You are responsible for the set-up, interfacing, networking, testing, operation, repair and maintenance of vessels;

  • You assist with the preparation and execution of new building projects, vessel conversions / modifications and other vessel related technical projects, and in management of the project team and third party contractors;

  • You are involved in/responsible for all engineering-related aspects of the project and assists more senior colleagues with more complex assignments;

  • You perform conceptual engineering and CAD drafting works as may be required to support the project, and establish functional requirements for modification works in close cooperation with the Project Manager and other departments within Fugro;

  • You coordinate engineering works carries out by third party contractors and assist with the evaluation of possible new and/or existing projects;

  • You prepare work scope descriptions for engineering, fabrication, and installation activities for vessel modification projects.

What you bring along

  • You have a BSc. in Ship Building, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or equivalent;

  • You have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the Offshore/Shipping industry;

  • You have a sound knowledge of shipping industry legislation and industry standards;

  • You are an advanced user of MS Office applications and are familiar with CAD systems (A-cad, Rhino);

  • You have good English language skills (written and spoken) and are able to work in multi-national, multi-cultural teams at locations around the world;

  • You are pragmatic, pro-active, stress resistant and a decisive team player with excellent planning skills.
